The Boatload story

The base deserves
a starring role.

A burger has its bun. We’re starting with a potato or vegetable that brings its own flavour to the meal.

Roast it, split it and make room for the filling. The soft centre catches the sauce; the skin helps hold it together. You get the base and the filling in the same forkful, with plenty of room for the extras.

Meat, beans, cheese, something crunchy, something saucy. That’s the beauty of a boat: there’s room to make it your kind of lunch.

British comfort.
Room for more.

We take our cue from the British jacket potato: baked in its skin, split open and filled generously. Simple, satisfying comfort food.

But that idea doesn’t have to stop with the spud. Sweet potato and roasted veg make boats of their own, with room for meat fillings, veg fillings, crunchy toppings and sauce.

A little credit for the humble spud.

Plain potatoes contribute carbohydrate, fibre, potassium and vitamin C to the diet. Keeping the skin on retains more fibre. How they’re cooked and what goes on top shape the finished meal.

Big appetite
or a little bite?

Half boats will be available if you fancy something smaller.

Same loaded idea. A little less boat.

Something we
were missing
in Canberra.

We felt Canberra’s foodie scene had a space waiting for this: a proper loaded potato or veg boat, warm and generous, with the filling at its heart.

So we’re bringing Boatload to Old Bus Depot Markets in Kingston. A British comfort-food influence, a wider world of fillings, and a Canberra beginning.

Come hungry. Help us write the first chapter.
